Longford Capital Announces Launch
Firm Organized in Response to Demand for Litigation Financing
CHICAGO - Longford Capital, a private investment company that provides capital for use by companies pursuing meritorious legal claims has begun operations. The firm intends to invest in meritorious legal claims in exchange for an interest in favorable settlements and judgments.
Longford Capital will invest in commercial claims it considers meritorious and of high value. It intends to partner with claim owners and their law firms to finance legal claims with provable damages that, typically, exceed $25 million.
"Until recently, corporate claim owners were forced to expend significant sums to pursue high-value legal claims. Our leadership team will focus on the intersection of business, finance, and the law to assist companies pursuing meritorious legal claims," said Timothy Farrell, managing director and co-founder of Longford Capital. "Litigation finance enables corporate claim owners to transfer the risk of pursuing valid legal claims and avoid the high costs of litigation without forgoing meritorious legal claims."
Ultimately, the firm expects to manage a diverse portfolio of legal claims in three broad, substantive areas, including business-to-business commercial disputes; intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets); and antitrust and trade regulation matters. The firm will consider investments in domestic and international arbitrations, and claims in bankruptcy and liquidation situations. Because risk profile and financing needs change as litigation proceeds, Longford Capital plans to invest in all stages of the litigation process – from the initial dispute or pre-filing phase through trial and appeal.
